India is an amalgam of distinctive communities, each being culturally, linguistically and ethnically diverse. The Sindhi community is one of them to which I belong.
The Sindhi community, known for its business acumen, believes in contributing towards society using monetary means and creating platforms for future generations. Therefore, welfare schemes are a part of the strategy.
The Sindhi New Year or Cheti Chand is celebrated in honor of the birth of Lord Jhulelal, who we consider as the creator. It signifies the beginning of a fresh start with new thoughts and ideas to help the community prosper and flourish. Religion is an integral part of our daily lives and theses values are embedded through are scripture, the “Guru Grant Sahib”.
Although stooped in ancient traditions and wisdom, our elders encouraged us to educate ourselves and today we have Sindhi’s who have reached the pinnacle in what ever they have chosen to do so. To name a few, L. K. Advani, the leader of the BJP party and the Hinduja’s, renowned businessmen based in U.K. We are a very adventurous lot and it would not be remiss of me to state that Sindhi’s are all over the world.
With my modern education and my rootedness in my tradition, I strive to be a useful member of my community. With such a rich culture, I have no intentions but to make my parents and society proud of me as I am of being a Sindhi.
